A Magical Escape to Darjeeling & Sikkim: 12 Days of Nature, Peace & Memories

Organized by Shreenathji Tourism, our Darjeeling–Sikkim tour with 35 passengers and our very own kitchen facility was nothing short of a dream. From serene lakes to majestic mountains, and spiritual sites to vibrant markets—this journey was a perfect blend of nature, culture, and connection. Here’s a glimpse of our unforgettable experience.

📍 Day 1 – April 21, 2025: Welcome to the North-East

We arrived at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and moved straight to our hotel for check-in. After a comforting homely lunch (courtesy of our kitchen team), we rested a bit. As the sun began to set, we headed to the Hong Kong Market for some local shopping and exploration. The day ended with dinner and a cozy overnight stay.

📍 Day 2 – April 22: Mirik Magic & Nepal Touch

After lunch, we set off to the breathtaking Mirik Lake—a true gem nestled in nature. Fog danced over the lake, adding a magical touch that left us in awe. Next, we headed towards the Pashupati Market at the Nepal border. With Aadhaar cards in hand, we got easy permission to cross the Indian check post and explore this unique international shopping hub. We then journeyed to Hotel Pradhan in Darjeeling, checked in, enjoyed dinner, and called it a night.

📍 Day 3 – April 23: Golden Mountains & Serene Gardens

Though overnight rains worried us, luck was on our side. At Tiger Hill, we were greeted by a clear sky and the glorious sunrise over Kanchenjunga, appearing like a golden crown in the sky. Countless photos and videos captured this magical moment.

Next, we visited the Japanese Peace Pagoda, soaking in its calm energy. After breakfast at the hotel, we explored Darjeeling Zoo, the lush Tea Gardens, and a tea factory. Post-lunch, we visited the beautiful Rock Garden just before closing time. With waterfalls, scenic views, and blooming flowers, it was a nature lover’s paradise. We wrapped up the day strolling along Darjeeling Mall Road.

📍 Day 4 – April 24: Toy Train Nostalgia & Scenic Pelling

We began our day aboard the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The toy train ride to Ghoom and back offered panoramic views and historical charm. After checking out, we had lunch and headed towards Pelling, crossing from West Bengal into Sikkim. The journey itself was a visual delight. We checked in to Hotel Golden Sunshine & Spa, enjoyed dinner, and rested.

📍 Day 5 – April 25: Pelling’s Spiritual & Natural Wonders

Our day began with visits to the Sanga Choeling Monastery, Kanchenjunga Falls, Rimbi Waterfall, Orange Garden, and the serene Khecheopalri Lake. After lunch, we visited the famous Skywalk in Pelling, offering incredible views of the mountains and the towering Chenrezig statue (137 ft). The tranquil atmosphere and intricate mandalas left us spiritually uplifted. A soulful day concluded with dinner and an overnight stay.

📍 Day 6 – April 26: Cultural Trail to Gangtok via Namchi & Ravangla

With packed lunch in hand (no food stops on the route), we headed to Gangtok. Along the way, we explored Namchi, including the magnificent Char Dham (with its Shiva statue) and Samdruptse Monastery. We also stopped at Ravangla’s Buddha Park with its giant Buddha statue and peaceful ambiance. Reaching Gangtok by 7 PM, we checked in at Hotel Sikkim Retreat, enjoyed dinner, and rested.

📍 Day 7 – April 27: Exploring Gangtok

We started the day with the Gangtok Ropeway, offering aerial views of the city. Then we visited the grand Rumtek Monastery. After lunch, unexpected rain altered our plans, but we made the best of it with a relaxed afternoon and a visit to MG Market and Lal Bazar. A cozy dinner wrapped up the day.

📍 Day 8 – April 28: Change of Plans – Aritar Adventure

Due to landslides on the Lachung route, we rerouted to Aritar. On the way, we visited the Vishwa Vinayak Temple in Rhenock. After checking into a homestay and enjoying lunch, we explored the peaceful Lampokhari Lake—a serene gem especially beautiful in the light rain. The evening was calm and rejuvenating.

📍 Day 9 – April 29: Tranquility in Phadamchen

We had hoped to reach Zuluk, but due to limited homestays, we halted in Phadamchen instead. Along the way, we stopped at Mankhim View Point, admired valley views and Lampokhari Lake from above, and enjoyed the Kali Khola Waterfall. We reached Phadamchen, checked into our homestay, and embraced the calm weather with gratitude.

📍 Day 10 – April 30: The Iconic Silk Route & Nathula Pass

This day was a highlight! We traveled the famed Zuluk Zigzag Road, took in the views at Thambi Viewpoint, visited Lungthung, and paid homage at Old Baba Mandir. Later, we experienced the majestic Nathula Pass—a historic Indo-China border point at 14,140 ft. Before returning to Gangtok, we stopped by the mesmerizing Tsomgo Lake. A truly thrilling and scenic day ended with dinner at our hotel.

📍 Day 11 – May 1: Monasteries, Viewpoints & Candlelight Goodbye

With clear weather again, we visited Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok, and Hanuman Tok. After lunch, the evening was spent shopping, relaxing, and sharing laughter. To cap it all, we organized a beautiful candlelight dinner with light music, a perfect ending to our journey.

📍 Day 12 – May 2: Farewell with Full Hearts

After breakfast, it was time to say goodbye. We dropped our fellow travelers at the airport and railway station, each one carrying a heart full of beautiful memories.
